Cabin Fever and Snow
Parents and families might like to know that there is such a thing as Cabin fever (also known as House Syndrome).
It is a name for a claustrophobic reaction that takes place when a person or group remains shut in or isolated in a small space, with nothing to do, for an extended period. The snow and adverse weather conditions currently sweeping the country are a good example of how this could be activated.
Symptoms include restlessness, irritability, irrational frustration with everyday objects, forgetfulness, laughter, excessive sleeping, distrust of anyone they are with, and an urge to go outside even in the snow or dark.
If you recognise any of this, perhaps you could try some of these ideas:
· Board-games – (not bored games!)
· Get out the paints and paper and do some artwork
· Raid the cupboards for ingredients and cook!
· Have a bath, light the candles and make love
· Indulge in the snow – it is ok to build snowmen and igloos when the kids are not around
· Sort out that drawer or cupboard you have been meaning to
· Good book – Good film – now might be the time to enjoy them
