Counsellor Comments
Steve shows a lot of understanding about how the children might react despite not being a father himself. Wanting to be there when the children are told is a great idea - he can see at first hand how they react. As it is, their overwhelmingly positive reaction is a big boost for him, and will encourage him in his efforts to be a good stepfather. There is still room for improved communication between Steve and Zoe as they had not discussed WHEN they would tell the children and Steve was surprised when Zoe seized the moment spontaneously
Involving everyone in the wedding helps them to develop as a family group, and a co-operative team. And on the wedding day, Steve will see the whole family - Zoe, Chloe and Richie coming to join him. There will not be a dry eye!
