A Second Marriage is a significant event in a family's life, and often generates strong feelings in the wider family - sometimes positive, sometimes less so! Involving the children at an early stage leads to them feeling included and if they are then involved in the planning it becomes a joint venture and they are more likely to feel positive about it. Telling the children whilst everyone is together means that Steve is seen to be part of this new family.

• Who do you think should tell the children's Dad that his ex-wife is getting remarried?
• At what stage would you tell him?
• What about the extended family? the Paternal Grandparents will almost certainly not be invited to the wedding, but they may want to see how their grandchildren look when they are dressed for the wedding, rather than finding out after the event.
