I am Becky

I'm a single mum with a son of 4 who has just started school.

My problem

I can’t seem to get Rory’s attention anymore he just ignores me and then I find myself shouting at him.

How I understood my problem

Starting school is a big step for both of us – I really miss having him around and he now has to listen to a new person, his teacher, who tells him what to do.
I want him to tell me everything that has happened and he just wants to chill out and play. He goes to bed without any problem because he must be tired out and doesn’t want any more pressure from me.

What I’m going to do to change things

I think I will carry on “being there” for him and not make any demands for a conversation.  If he wants to talk to me, he will, and if not, I can give him a few more hugs instead.
